Healthy Children | Healthy Spaces

The HCHS initiative was launched with a children's health conference that took place in November 2010 at the Museum of Nature in Ottawa.

With more than 100 engaged multi-sector champions and experts, we explored the roles that outdoor spaces, risk, perceptions of risk and liability, access to safe, inspiring outdoor play, learning and living have on the health of our children and communities.

Outcomes address existing barriers and increasing access to healthy spaces which foster opportunities for every child to learn, live and play outside.

Delegates closed the conference with their personal commitments and actions towards moving the HCHS energy forward. Browse these inspiring pledges and view Conference presentations.

The HCHS Conference led to the formation of a collaborative initiative of the same name.  Our focus is on policy development that increases every child's opportunities to be active and engaged outside.  Stay up to date with the HCHS Initiative by subscribing to the HCHS list serve.
